Lebanon: Information on whether Palestinian refugees can renew their Lebanese travel document at Lebanese offices abroad and on whether there is a point at which they would have to return to Lebanon to have it renewed

An official at the Embassy of the Lebanese Republic in Ottawa provided the following information (27 Febr. 1995). Palestinian refugees can renew his or her Lebanese travel document at Lebanese offices abroad. The official added that in order to do so, Palestinians must have their fingerprints taken at the embassy. A record of their fingerprints and a copy of their passport are then sent to Lebanon with their application. The embassy usually receives a response from the Lebanese authorities within two or three months. It is not necessary for Palestinian refugees to return to Lebanon to have their Lebanese travel document renewed. For more information on the Palestinian travel document, please consult Responses to Information Request LBN16897.E of 30 March 1994 and LBN17466.E of 24 May 1994.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
