Lebanon: Information on the government policy regarding Palestinians with Lebanese travel documents and on the entry procedures for Palestinians holding these documents

The following information was provided during an 8 August 1996 telephone interview with a representative of the Embassy of Lebanon in Ottawa.

The source stated that for the last eight months Palestinians holding Lebanese travel documents must obtain visas to enter Lebanon. The procedure to obtain a visa can be completed at any local Lebanese embassy. Embassies of Lebanon abroad do not issue entry visas for Palestinians. Decisions are taken in Beirut and then cmmunicated to the embassies. This response usually takes two to three months. There are no fees to complete the application procedure.

The source indicated that the visa applicant must provide two photocopies of the first three pages of the travel document, two photocopies of the blue card, and two recent photographs.

Information on the current Lebanese policy on Palestinians holding Lebanese travel documents could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
