A prominent Kyrgyz rights activist has been placed in a psychiatric clinic in Bishkek, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Maksim Kuleshov was detained by police in Bishkek on his way to stage a protest in front of a government building on March 4.

His colleague, Nazgul Turdubekova, told RFE/RL that Kuleshov was forced into the psychiatric clinic on March 5.

He was released several hours later.

Kyrgyz human rights activist Aziza Abdyrasulova told RFE/RL that Kuleshov received at least one injection while in the clinic, after which he lost consciousness.

He is reportedly feeling better now.
