Egypt: Clashes between military police and protesters injure 50 in Cairo

Activists say that at least 50 people have been injured in Cairo during clashes between police and antigovernment protesters.
The casualties occurred on December 16 as protesters set cars on fire and threw stones at military police guarding government headquarters.
Police also fired into the air to try to disperse the some 300 demonstrators.
The protestors were angered by the rumored jailhouse beating of activist Abboudi Ibrahim after he was arrested at a sit-in outside government headquarters in central Cairo.
Protesters have been camping for three weeks outside the government building to prevent new Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri from entering.
The protesters see al-Ganzoori, who served under President Hosni Mubarak, as being part of the regime that was toppled in a popular uprising in February.
