Life for Iraqi refugees increasingly desperate
More than 4.5 million Iraqis have been uprooted by the crisis in their country. More than 2.5 million of them are displaced within Iraq, while over 2 million have found refuge abroad, including 1.4 million in Syria and some half-a-million in Jordan. Life is getting increasingly desperate for these refugees as they run out of resources and, in some cases, overstay their visas. (14:38)

Desperation on the Mediterranean
As the Mediterranean tourist season draws to a close, another deadly season of maritime people smuggling also ends. This season as in year's past, thousands of people have risked their lives to reach Europe by sea from North Africa. Many are simply trying to escape poverty, but others are fleeing conflict or persecution. (5:15)

DRC : Renewed violence forces thousands to flee
Fighting between the government and rebel forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes. The newly displaced in North Kivu province are crowding into makeshift camps. UNHCR is helping to make sure that all have adequate shelter, access to water and food. (2:58)

Central African Republic: Living on the Edge

Sri Lanka: Uneasy refuge
Sri Lankans have long migrated to the small village of Udappu during the fishing season to take advantage of its abundance of fish. Now, some Sri Lankans are moving here for another reason - conflict. The violence has displaced more than 300,000 people in the past year. With tensions running high UNHCR is trying to make sure the new arrivals are welcomed. (3:08)
