Advocacy helps to transform policies and services affecting displaced and stateless people on a national, regional, and global level. It is a vital part of UNHCR’s work.
In Ukraine, UNHCR works within national political, economic, and social structures to bring policies, practices and laws into compliance with international standards.
The agency provides practical and legal expertise through written positions, parliamentary hearings and committees, and meetings with officials. The overall goal is to support the authorities in improving protection of refugees, internally displaced persons, and stateless persons.
UNHCR accompanies this work with practical support to national authorities. Capacity building activities, such as training and technical support, are geared towards strengthening the Ukrainian authorities’ ability to protect refugees, stateless persons, and internally displaced persons according to international norms.
