High Commissioner Grandi on mission to Colombia, Ecuador and Costa Rica
UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Filippo Grandi, flies to Latin America this morning for his first visit to the region since assuming office. Mr. Grandi starts his trip in Colombia where he is scheduled to meet with internally displaced communities in Bogotá and Soacha, and travel to Cúcuta, along the border with Venezuela, where he will visit programs that provide protection and assistance to IDPs and host families.
He will then fly to Ecuador, to meet with refugees who fled the conflict in neighbouring Colombia as well as families displaced by the April 2016 earthquake.
He will finish his mission in San José, Costa, Rica, where he will open the high-level roundtable on refugees and displaced people from the Northern Triangle of Central America, aimed at finding solutions to this growing protection situation.
