In total, close to 1.1 million refugees were verified and biometrically enrolled.<\/p>\nIn Uganda, UNHCR is piloting new tools that automatically populate dashboards with aggregated data. Uganda, has thus become a laboratory which demonstrates how UNHCR\u2019s Population Registration and Identity Management EcoSystem (PRIMES) will transform data on refugees in the future.<\/p>\n
Based on a basic dataset received from the government system (RIMS), the registered population is being verified by 6 mobile teams using two UNHCR tools: the Emergency Registration Database (ERD) and the Biometric Identity Management System (BIMS – capturing 10 fingerprints, 2 iris and a photo).<\/p>\n
All refugees are issued Proof of Verification documents and new ration cards. Following enrollment, these records are uploaded to the PRIMES’ Global Distribution Tool (GDT) in the form of food e-manifests.\u00a0The World Food Programme then uses GDT at all 90 food distribution points across the country to verify identities at food distribution and record the delivery of assistance against these identities. WFP currently feeds almost 1.4 million refugees in Uganda.<\/p>\n
