On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, UNHCR in the Czech Republic under the Auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Refugee Facilities Administration honored refugee and asylum-seeking students for their academic performance and achievements. UNHCR selected eleven students from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Syria, and Ukraine to receive awards. The students, ranging in age between 7 and 18 had been nominated by their schools and teachers many of whom joined them and their families at the ceremony which took place at the beautiful premises of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in the capital. After the official ceremony, students and their families had real fun at the Prague Museum of Senses.

UNHCR thanks the both Ministries, the Refugee Facilities Administration and their staff, teachers, and school principals, social workers as well as mayors of towns where the families are currently residing. The dedication of many serves as a wonderful example of how integration of people seeking a safe haven in the Czech Republic can truly work. We are sure these students will continue with their academic efforts, will be supported by their families, and will serve the example to others both in the refugee as well as Czech communities.
