Advocacy is a key tool to protect refugees, asylum seekers and stateless people. Therefore it is an important element of UNHCR activities used in combination with negotiation, monitoring and the dissemination of information. These can help transform policies, practices and services both at the regional and the national level.

UNHCR in Central Europe employs advocacy to influence national political, economic and social actors to bring policies, practices and laws into compliance with international standards and ensure the protection of uprooted people.

It advocates, among others, for a guaranteed access to territory and fair and efficient asylum procedures, appropriate reception conditions like accommodation, for improved integration policies and the protection of stateless people through an established national legislative framework.
