Regional Resettlement Data

Sometimes the only way to adequately keep refugees safe is to move them to a secure third country. Resettlement protects refugees whose life, liberty, safety, health, or other fundamental rights are at risk in the country where they have sought refuge.

UNHCR identifies refugees in need of resettlement and submits their names and information about their needs to resettlement countries, like Australia and New Zealand.

There were 19.9 million refugees of concern to UNHCR around the world at the end of 2017, but less than one per cent were resettled.
