Irish Refugee Food Events
For refugees and asylum-seekers in Ireland, food is a strong part of their identity, linking them to a new home from an old one. Just as we all looked forward to that bag of Tayto and Barry’s tea in Manhattan or Melbourne, the smells of Kibbeh simmering in a pan or warm pho on the hob bring back warm memories.
Refugee Food events give us an insight into our new neighbour’s customs and traditions, and see the food that they were raised with. It’s also a way strengthen what it means to be a community and share the Céad Míle Fáilte and famous Irish hospitality Ireland is known the world over for.
Our 2020 Food Fair was unfortunately unable to go ahead because of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are interested in taking part in the Food Fair in the future, please contact UNHCR and download our 'How-to-Guide' on organising a refugee food event here.
