Mother sees son after eight years apart
As Yodit fled for her safety in 2012, she was forced to make the most difficult decision for a parent: to leave her three-year-old son behind. When she finally settled down in Italy she immediately started her family reunification application, not knowing that many more years would pass before she was able to reunite with her son. UNHCR helped process the family reunification, which was also made possible by the programme Miles4Migrants. In 2020, Mewael was finally able to reunite with his mother and the little brother he had never met.
