Macau (Special Administrative Region of China)

Macau (Special Administrative Region of China)

In the Macao SAR, the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol have been extended and a national asylum law was adopted. Persons of concern have access to public medical assistance, education and police assistance, but in practice, the number of claims is very low. No refugee has been recognised to date.

In the region, UNHCR is represented by the Country Office in Beijing and a Sub-Office that covers Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SAR).
