Agriculture logistics and weed removal robotics
Challenge
South Sudan’s conflict and instability have crippled STEM education, leaving youth – especially refugees and displaced learners – without access to robotics or coding. Underfunded, poorly equipped schools limit innovation and employment, reinforcing poverty and preventing locally led solutions in agriculture, water, and healthcare.
Solution
The South Sudan Robotics Association is strengthening a refugee-led robotics hub to provide hands-on training in robotics, coding, and problem-solving. Using low-cost kits, youth will develop and test a semi-autonomous and responsive robot prototype that will solve specific agricultural needs of the local community, to strengthen farming practices, food security, resilience, and local problem-solving capacity.
Impact
Improved STEM skills and increased participation in digital innovation for at least 35 displaced youth, as well as development of a robotic prototype addressing local agricultural challenges. Thirteen members of the internally displaced and host communities will participate in the co-creation process of the prototype.
