Challenge

Tanzania’s Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps host more than 260,000 people. Stockouts and expirations of medicines and medical supplies in the camps, compounded by increasing humanitarian resource constraints, limit the quality of healthcare available to residents.

Solution

Leveraging predictive modelling and data analytics to forecast medicine needs based on various factors – including population dynamics, health trends, disease outbreaks, and historical consumption patterns – to increase the efficiency of supply chains, optimize distribution, and reduce the risk of shortages or overstocking.

Impact

Reliable access to medicines and supplies, leading to better care and fewer preventable deaths. More efficient use of limited resources in a context where timely access to medication is critical for wellbeing.
