Challenge

Refugees in Uganda face deep challenges in media representation, as mainstream outlets often underreport or misrepresent their stories. This lack of authentic visibility reinforces stereotypes, harms social and psychological well-being, strains relationships with host communities, and weakens policymaking due to limited refugee perspectives.

Solution

VORM is delivering a refugee-led multimedia platform to amplify the voices and experiences of refugees.  The initiative will produce and broadcast refugee stories through online channels while training refugee youth in journalism, media production safe use of AI and countering misinformation disinformation and hate speech with plans to gradually expand into television broadcasting.

Impact

At least 35 refugee youth will complete media training and gain practical skills in filming, editing, and reporting – increasing refugee representation in the media, and enhancing access to reliable information among refugee and host communities. VORM TV will produce news segments for their social media channels and one documentary conveying refugees' perspectives.
