Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme (ExCom)

3 October 2017

The opening session on Monday 2 October included a statement by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi where he called for renewed international efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts: “Global community is letting down millions of refugees and displaced people. “This is not only a matter of principles and values but also of building regional and global stability. Refugee protection and security are complementary goals, and must be pursued in tandem.”

With the participation of member states, ExCom reviews the work of the Standing Committee of the preceding year, establishes its programme of work for the next 12 months, examines UNHCR’s financial requirements for the coming year and approves the annual programme target every year at its annual session.

This year ExCom started its programme with a “Special segment on the comprehensive refugee response framework (CRRF)” in which Iran was a panelist to share its good practices and long experience as a host nation for refugees with a larger international audience, including the donor community.
