UNHCR has released USD 2 million from Denmark’s Emergency Reserve Fund to provide immediate help to people who have been forced to flee their homes in Iraq and Burundi. The grants from this fund will provide men, women and children who have abandoned everything with access to basic services and core relief items.
In 2016, Norway became the largest donor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) per capita, the seventh largest donor country to UNHCR in total and the fourth largest donor of unearmarked support.

“It is crucial that Iceland continue to resettle refugees, as this is often the only durable solution for individuals who have fled because of persecution in their country of origin,” UNHCR’s regional representative for Northern Europe, Pia Prytz Phiri, said when she recently visited Iceland.

Improving the access of asylum seekers to legal remedies and monitoring the reception conditions in the Republic of Estonia
In cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Estonian Human Rights Centre (EHRC) will undertake a project on provision of free legal aid and monitoring reception conditions in 2017.
The Finnish Refugee Council has nominated Bahar Mozaffari from Espoo the Refugee Woman of the Year, and Oulu-based Ramin Akhi the Refugee Man of the Year. The nominations were announced today at the Women of the World Festival held in Tampere.
