UNICEF and UNHCR Joint Observations on the proposed amendments to the Norwegian Nationality Act and Nationality Regulations (Forslag til endringer i statsborgerloven og statsborgerforskriften)

UNHCR and UNICEF, as agencies entrusted by the United Nations General Assembly with a mandate to prevent and reduce statelessness around the world and advocate for the protection of children’s rights, respectively, have a direct interest in proposals in the field of nationality law and policy.

The UNHCR Regional Representation for Northern Europe and UNICEF are grateful to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security for the invitation to express our views on the law proposal dated 14 July 2017 to amend the Norwegian Nationality Act1 and Regulations2 (hereafter referred to as the Proposal). UNHCR and UNICEF, as agencies entrusted by the United Nations General Assembly with a mandate to prevent and reduce statelessness around the world and advocate for the protection of children’s rights, respectively, have a direct interest in proposals in the field of nationality law and policy.
