As part of the campaign 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, implemented under the motto “Turn-off violence against women and girl “, the BHWI Foundation in RRC Salakovac held workshops with women living in this center.
Asylum-seekers wrote slogans sending clear messages of solidarity with women victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
Women sent a symbolic message in Kurdish, Arabic, Urdu and Farsi, writing on scarves and gloves – Stop violence against women and girls!
A man from Iraq also gave his contribution, saying: “Women should be respected, and they are God’s beings just like men. And my mother is a woman, and my wife is a mother. ”
The psychosocial team of the BHWI Foundation in IPC Salakovac, together with professional associates from the same field, as well as with the leaders of occupation activities, works daily on the protection of human and, especially, women’s human rights.
SGBV, psychological and social counseling and mentoring, with the assistance of translators and cultural mediators, asylum-seekers and refugees accommodated in the center, facilitate understanding of the circumstances in which they find themselves, and ensures the protection of their rights, in cooperation with relevant local organizations and institutions .
The activities and engagement of expert staff result in the trust and cooperation of asylum-seekers, and improves the daily intra-family functioning, which thus affects the better functioning of individuals within the team.
The unfortunate circumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic leave us with severe social consequences. They are visible locally and globally, where social distance means isolation, and isolation often results in deviant behaviors.
Behaviors that often include violence that can develop within the isolated community, and the joint struggle through different forms of activities and their recognition are the only way to reach mechanisms that can enable transparent protection of women and their human rights.
BHWI Foundation activities are implemented in cooperation with UNHCR and support by the people of USA.
