UNHCR acknowledges BiH authorities’ efforts in improving conditions for people in camp Lipa

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with UN and civil society partners are very concerned about the fate of almost 2,000 people stranded in winter conditions in the country, particularly in Una-Sana Canton including those left without shelter in the site of Lipa in Bihać Municipality.

UNHCR BiH Representative Lucie Gagné is pleased to see, following strong advocacy by a number of actors including the EU and the UN, that the BiH authorities are making considerable efforts to address the management of the situation of migrants and refugees and have now identified an interim solution for some 900 individuals in dire conditions at the Lipa site.

UNHCR calls for further engagement of the authorities throughout the country and reiterates its commitment to continue supporting  the authorities in providing better reception conditions and efficient services, including access to the asylum procedure, for people in need of international protection.
