RHP: 120 Kosovo Roma Families Move into New Homes in Konik
The families had fled the Kosovo conflict in 1999 and lived in barracks and containers within the camp on the outskirts of the capital Podgorica for 18 years.
They keys were handed over by Vice Prime Minister Milutin Simović, Minister of Labour of Social Welfare Kemal Purišić, Podgorica Mayor Slavoljub Stijepović, as well as the Head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro and representatives of the Capital City, US Embassy, OSCE and UNHCR.
The residential complex comprising 120 apartments is the second RHP housing subproject that has been completed in Montenegro. A further 51 apartments within the RHP are expected to be built by autumn 2018, which will set the stage for the closure of the Konik camp.
The Regional Housing Programme (RHP) in Montenegro, estimated at €27.5 million, plans to provide housing for 6,063 persons or 1,177 households belonging to the most vulnerable categories, with donors contributing with €23.5 million.
