The Global Refugee Forum – how can you help refugees?
So what can you do? As an individual there are a number of actions you can take.
Welcome refugees
Across the United Kingdom, people are opening their hearts and lives to refugees and saying ‘welcome’ in a range of innovative ways.
In our A Great British Welcome series we meet the people who are hosting, educating, employing and making friends with refugees.
Ask your university to help refugees
Right now only 3% of refugees enter higher education. That’s compared to a global average of 37%. Student Action for Refugees and City of Sanctuary are calling on higher education institutions and refugee education organisations to pledge towards the goal of 15% of refugees in higher education by 2030.
Is your university on the list? If not, share this message and ask them to commit to help. Don’t forget to tag them.

Volunteer or get involved with your local community sponsorship group
Refugees and asylum seekers can face a number of challenges as they rebuild their lives in the UK, but there are lots of ways that you can offer support.
Find out more about how you can make a difference to refugees living in the UK.
Take action
Right now in the UK, refugees who have been torn apart from their families continue to be separated from the people they love because of restrictive rules.
Together we can change this.
Fundraise or donate to UNHCR
With every pound you donate, we can provide more shelter, safety and refuge to innocent people forced to flee for their lives.
The Global Refugee Forum is taking place in Geneva on December 16 to 18. You can follow events online and show your support using #RefugeeForum. A webcast will be available on the Global Refugee Forum webpage.
