UNHCR Teachers' Toolkit in German for 12 to 15 year olds
This education package contains the German version of the teaching materials on UNHCR's Teachers' Toolkit web pages.
Any video and audio materials used for this age group should tell stories of a refugee child of the same age as the pupils through discussion of familiar and relevant topics such as why and how people leave their homes, how they have come to a new country and future dreams. Students in this age range are encouraged to move their understanding from classroom into the practical realm of their lives.

Understanding refugees, migration and asylum begins with understanding a few basics. The word “refugee” is often used as a blanket term for people displaced by war, violence or persecution. But there are different categories of displaced people, each with specific needs.
You can watch these explainer animations and their corresponding class discussion sheets as a preparation for your lesson. Choose which sections you need and use them as you like to compose your own instructional package.
Guidance for inclusion of refugees in your classroom
Teaching newcomers often comes with specific needs relating to language acquisition and adaptation to a new culture and environment. Some refugee children may suffer from stress or trauma preventing them from participating fully in school activities, and requiring specific support.
UNHCR has developed some professional guidance materials for primary and secondary schools teachers on including refugees in your classroom. The materials below are available in German.
These teaching materials are designed specifically for children in lower secondary education, ages 12-15.
All the materials linked are available in German.
