Dr. Ayedh Dabsan Al-Qahtani

A senior delegation from the Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani Humanitarian Fund is briefed on the Core Relief Items (CRIs) distributed to Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh.

Dr. Ayedh Dabsan Al-Qahtani is the Chief Executive Officer for the Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanity and the Advisor to the Endowments of Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah for Charity and Good Deeds.


In the past, Dr. Al-Qahtani was a member of the board of directors of the Islamic Insurance Company, as well as, of Ezdan Group Holdings. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from The Holy Quran and Islamic Studies University in Sudan, 2014, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Qatar University.

Dr. Ayedh Dabsan Al-Qahtani has supported numerous projects of UNHCR throughout the years, in the past as the CEO of the Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanity (RAF) and now as an Advisor to the Founder of the Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani Humanitarian Fund. The support began in 2015 where RAF supported projects towards the provision of basic services and lifesaving needs through cash assistance, health, nutrition. The generous contribution helped some 320,000 refugees and internally displaced persons in the region and globally with a total financial support of some USD 4 million.

Furthermore, the funding received from the Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani Humanitarian Fund in 2019 with a total of USD 35,215,260 has benefited almost one million displaced and vulnerable populations in Yemen and Bangladesh. 

Dr. Al-Qahtani has been to Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh in the fall of 2019 to meet with Rohingya refugees and the government to learn more about UNHCR’s work and to see first hand the impact of the contribution. Dr. Al-Qahtani remains a strong advocate for the displaced globally. 

In 2020, more than US$43 million, was  channeled through four separate agreements, to fund UNHCR’s work in support of refugees and displaced people in Yemen, Lebanon, Bangladesh and Chad. This year’s donation is the largest ever individual contribution to UNHCR.
