Information for media covering the Global Refugee Forum

Please note: Media representatives who have a permanent accreditation to UNOG will have access to the Forum. Visiting journalists need to pre-register and carry an assigned badge. Please note that registration for media accreditation needs to be done through the United Nations Information Service in Geneva. Please fill out an Indico registration form using the following link: http://reg.unog.ch/e/grf
Please attach all requested mandatory documents as well as a letter of assignment and a national press card to your registration form.


Accreditation for visiting journalists

If you have applied for press accreditation from the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, you will have received a confirmation notification. Please follow the instructions given in your notification and pick up your badge as early as possible.

Security

On 16 December (Monday) and 18 December (Wednesday) the Palais des Nations will be operating as usual. Present your badge at the gate and proceed to security screening.

17 December (Tuesday): Tight security will be in place
The Pregny Gate will be open from 07:00 CET. After passing the initial security checks, please use door A17 or door E40 to enter the building and proceed towards the X-ray security point in the A building (near room XI).
UN staff and volunteers will be present and happy to assist you, should you have any questions. Permanently accredited media representatives may also use the X-ray security point near room VIII.

Please note: On 17 and 18 December, UNHCR will be operating the press centre of the Global Refugee Forum in rooms IX and VIII from 07:00 to 19:00 CET.

Quick overview for Tuesday, 17 December
VIP arrivals and Plenary sessions carried live by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). A webcast will be available on the Global Refugee Forum webpage and via the UN Webcast Service.
UNHCR will provide photo coverage of the Plenary Session from the floor of the Assembly Hall on 17 December. A selection of photos will be available on the same day on UNHCR’s multimedia platform, Refugees Media and can be immediately downloaded in high resolution. UNHCR photos from the Global Refugee Forum are free of charge with the requirement to credit UNHCR and the photographer.

14:00 – 14:30, Press Room III
Special Press Conference with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on the importance and scope of the Global Refugee Forum.

Quick overview for 18 December, Wednesday
15:00 – 19:00, Assembly Hall
Closing plenary session of the Global Refugee Forum, with refugee co-sponsors reflecting on outcomes and next steps.

19:00 (TBC) Closing press stake-out, Hall 14 ­
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi is going to speak to the press at the end of the Forum. This will take place in the stake-out area that will be set up in Hall 14. Exact time to be confirmed on 18 December.

Requesting and getting content

We kindly ask correspondents to request access for photographers and cameramen to the Global Refugee Forum events in advance (only exception: press conferences). To request access please refer to the list of contacts below. We do our best to try and accommodate all requests.

Photos of almost all forum events will be provided by UNHCR on the multimedia platform Refugees Media.

A broadcast-quality feed will be available at the UN TV Studio at the Palais des Nations. A webcast will be available on the Global Refugee Forum webpage.
