As of August 2026, there are some 225,740 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia.

As of August 2026, there are 225,740 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia.
- Approximately 90% are from Myanmar, including Rohingya and other ethnic groups who have fled conflict, violence, and persecution.
- The remaining population comprises refugees and asylum-seekers from countries including Pakistan (3%), Yemen (2%), Afghanistan (1%), Somalia (1%), and other nationalities (3%).
45% of refugees and asylum-seekers are men, while 23% are women. Boys and girls each account for 16% of the population.
There are approximately 72,236 children below the age of 18, representing 32% of the total registered population.
