Invitation for Participation to a Pilot Media Lab

20 Dec 2021

© UNHCR/Antoine Tardy

Symbiosis is pleased to announce the launch of a Pilot Media Lab, organised with the support of UNHCR Office in Greece. The Media Lab will include a series of workshops that will take place during January and February 2022, in Athens and Thessaloniki.

The Lab aims to:

  • Promote good practices for responsible reporting on forced displacement issues, with a focus on integration and inclusion
  • Explore various story-telling techniques and tools, in theory and practice
  • Enhance participant’s skills in mobile reporting, photography, video-making and use of social media
  • Empower refugees and other forcibly displaced people to tell stories (their own or others) in a compelling and effective manner
  • Provide a platform for refugee voices to be heard and to reach a wider audience

In the workshops organised in Athens and Thessaloniki, refugees and locals, 10-12 people in each city, will participate in engaging with and learning about Storytelling & Journalism, Mobile Reporting and Effective Use of Social Media.

Throughout the workshops, participants will produce stories, podcasts, videos, photos, etc., that will be uploaded on a digital platform with the aim to challenge existing stereotypes and negative narratives around forced displacement and highlight stories of hope and inclusion.
