Key WASH Resources

As part of its protection, assistance and life-saving mandate, UNHCR provides WASH services for refugees, asylum seekers and their hosting communities in a variety of contexts and settings.

Building on ongoing lessons learned and best practices of the WASH humanitarian sector, UNHCR has compiled a set of resources that can help to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of WASH responses. Below are the three main sets of guidance that can help to improve the timeliness and overall quality when responding to a refugee emergency: the UNHCR WASH Manual, the WASH Guidelines and Forms, and the WASH Technical Designs. This documentation is the result of an extensive review process with WASH actors who have, or have had, active programmes supporting refugees. As these require continuous review and amendment in response to changes in best-practice and feedback from the field, feel free to reach out at [email protected]. Note that many of these forms are based on tools shared by active refugee-focused WASH agencies and credit has been given when a particular agency’s tool has been used or adapted.
