CIS Conference Process - concluding meeting
CIS Conference Process - concluding meeting
The concluding meeting of the CIS Conference process will take place in Geneva on Monday 10 October 2005. The initial 1996 Geneva Regional Conference on Refugees, Displaced Persons, Migration and Asylum Issues in the Commonwealth of Independent States was a response to the challenges resulting from the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The purpose of the Monday meeting is to conclude the ten-year process, adopt a final statement, and look ahead towards a possible new flexible framework for Euro-Asian cooperation on migration, asylum and displacement issues. The meeting will be chaired by UNHCR and IOM [International Organization for Migration], and the High Commissioner is scheduled to deliver a closing statement. Media representatives are invited to attend the opening statements from 10 to 11 a.m. and the closing remarks at 4.30 p.m. in Room XVIV at the Palais.
