World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Egypt

Chris Clark, British programme manager for UNMACC-South Lebanon, uses models to explain the different types of munitions found in southern Lebanon.

Refugee children from eight community schools in Cairo took part in a painting competition. Some 100 pieces of art were submitted and some will feature in a calendar and greetings cards. More than 85 paintings were displayed at the Rawabat Gallery in Cairo. Goodwill Ambassador Adel Imam inaugurated the exhibition.

Student Action for Refugees (STAR) marked WRD a few days early on 15 June with a big event at the American University in Cairo. There were cultural activities such as music and dance, while refugees offered dishes from their countries to the more than 3,000 visitors. A booth was set up in the main area displaying posters, information leaflets and publications. The event was covered on Egyptian Television.
