Peru
Peru
Peru hosts the highest number of Venezuelan asylum-seekers globally and is the second-largest host country for forcibly displaced Venezuelans.
In 2024, Peru – home to 1.6 million forcibly displaced Venezuelans and over half a million asylum-seekers – saw increased challenges for refugees and migrants due to tighter entry restrictions, rising xenophobia, and political unrest.
Since 2018, UNHCR has been responding to the growing needs of refugees, asylum-seekers, migrants, and host communities through humanitarian assistance and protection efforts. Working closely with the government, UN agencies, and partners, UNHCR implements interventions in Lima and eight regions, supporting access to documentation, basic services, and safe integration pathways at national, regional, and local levels.
