World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Armenia

World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Armenia

20 June 2004

Kids play in a neighbourhood populated mostly by Iraqi refugees. Because refugees are not allowed to work in Syria, children often must take informal jobs to help support their families.

The UNHCR Representative will participate in the morning TV programme of both H1 and H2 channels. The World Refugee Day spot will also be broadcast on the following TV channels: H1, H2, Shoghakat, Shant and Kentron.

A concert will take place at the AOX Cultural Centre, with performances by young musicians from the Spivakov Foundation.

UNHCR will also organise an exhibition of arts and crafts by refugees. The opening of the exhibition will be followed by a speech by the UNHCR Representative and a concert by young musicians from the Spivakov Foundation.

Various events will take place in the regions of Lori and Syunik, including an open-air concert, with the participation of both refugees and locals.

UNHCR will renovate its yard in Vanadzor and plan a tree alley, called Peace Alley, with the help of refugees and locals. In Kapan, a summer camp will be organised for refugee children.
