World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: United States
On 19 June, a fund-raising concert with Tony Bennett was organized in Washington for invited guests, including UNHCR. The popular American singer gave another performance on 20 June at the National Geographic Museum in Washington. 300 invitees attended the event.
Also on 20 June, a musical show was performed at Washington's Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts with opening remarks from UNHCR. In San Francisco, UNHCR Goodwill Envoy Khaled Hosseini and other guests attended a WRD ceremony at the World Affairs Council.
On 23 June, a free music and dance performance and exhibition by refugee artists and youth was held in San Francisco.
On 23 June, the award-winning film "God Grew Tired of Us" was screened in Washington and followed by a panel discussion. The film tells the story of the so-called "Lost Boys" of Sudan.
