Iraqi chef, Myriam (centre, wearing head scarf), prepared lunch for more than 200 children and received a standing ovation at the Octave Mirbeau College in Trévières, Normandy, north-west France. ; During the week of the annual Bayeux-Calvados Awards for war correspondents, UNHCR partnered with the Refugee Food Festival and schools in Normandy to educate children on the culture and experiences of refugees. The Refugee Food Festival is a citizen-led initiative by the French NGO, Food Sweet Food. UNHCR’s programme to educate the region’s middle schools included bringing refugees in to present to children in their classrooms, an interactive visit to the world’s biggest refugee camp Za’atari in Jordan (using Virtual Reality headsets), lunch prepared by refugee chefs, a chance to meet two Syrian rappers, and a tour of the UNHCR exhibition, The Most Important Thing.
