At the end of June 2021, Ghana hosted 14,273 refugees and asylum-seekers, with 70% of the population in protracted situations. Most of them come from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region. Ivorians represent 45% of the refugee population, followed by Togolese and the rest, including Liberians, Sudananese, Cameroonians, Syrians, etc.
UNHCR works closely with its main Government interlocutor. The Office focuses on finding solutions to protracted populations in Ghana through voluntary repatriation and local integration.
