UNHCR launches new global Arabic website
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, April 2 (UNHCR) - The UN refugee agency has launched a new website to inform a global audience about UNHCR's operations in the Middle East and North Africa and to spread awareness among Arabic speakers about its work for the tens of millions of forcibly displaced and stateless people around the world.
UNHCR's global Arabic website made its official debut on Sunday at the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Development Conference & Exhibition. It will contain much of the content carried by the global English and French websites. But it will also serve as the primary source for information on UNHCR's operations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
"The official launch of the Arabic website is a landmark for UNHCR," said Imran Riza, UNHCR's regional representative. "Given the remarkable contributions to refugee assistance and protection within the MENA region, it was essential for UNHCR to establish such a platform in Arabic."
The website will have links to social media platforms used by UNHCR. It will also help UNHCR in its public and private fund-raising efforts. "In addition to raising awareness of UNHCR's core mandate and operations, the Arabic website will also aim to mobilize support through a dedicated donation page," said Mahmoud Madi, the Abu Dhabi-based editor of the new website.
