World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Gambia

WRD-linked events began on 18 June with a TV Interview for refugee children at the UNHCR refugee counselling centre in Bakoteh. The nine children selected from different refugee communities talked about their situation, their education, the atrocities of war and their hopes of going back home.
On 20 June, hundreds of refugees took part in a WRD parade from Kairaba Avenue to the Independence Stadium in Banjul. Other activities included dances performed by refugee children, a short drama depicting the horrors of war and a football match.
On 23 June, some 150 refugees helped clean the capital's Westfield Junction area.
