High Commissioner to visit Japan
Briefing notes
High Commissioner to visit Japan
The High Commissioner arrives in Japan on Monday to begin a four-day mission during which he will meet with senior government officials, parliamentarians, NGOs and others.
Among those Mr. Lubbers is scheduled to meet is his predecessor, Mrs. Sadako Ogata, who is now President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. UNHCR works closely with JICA in several countries.
Japan has for the past two decades been one of the most supportive and reliable donors to UNHCR and its work for refugees around the world. In 2003, Japan contributed $91 million to UNHCR, maintaining its position as our second largest government donor.
