The Economic and Social Council,

Recalling its resolution 672 (XXV) of 20 April 1958 establishing the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,

Noting that the Executive Committee of the United Nations Refugee Fund has recommended that the Council consider the desirability of increasing the membership of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from twenty-four to twenty-five seats,

Noting also that General Assembly resolution 1166 (XII) of 26 November 1957 provides that the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees should consist of from twenty to twenty-five States Members of the United Nations or members of any of the specialized agencies,

Noting further that the same General Assembly resolution requested that the membership of the Committee be elected on the widest possible geographical basis,

Decides to amend Council resolution 672 (XXV) to increase the membership of the Committee by the addition of the Republic of China as the twenty-fifth member.
