World Refugee Day 2003 National Activity Plan: Norway

From June 18-21, UNHCR, together with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), will set up a mock refugee camp in central Oslo. A number of activities will take place inside the camp. The King and Queen of Norway will attend the opening of this campaign week.

The NRC, in co-operation with the Norwegian Post, will launch a World Refugee Day stamp on June 20.

The Refugee Council has invited all ninth-grade students in Norway to participate in an essay and poem competition with the theme, "Refugee Youth". A jury consisting of well-known Norwegian authors will choose the best of the contributions, which will be presented in different contexts.

Several activities will also be launched at refugee reception centres throughout Norway to celebrate World Refugee Day.

The Norwegian Scouts' Association will organise a World Refugee Day fund-raising campaign for NRC.
