World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Uganda
A special edition of Rwandan Returnee News will highlight specific issues about repatriation. Refugees who have already returned to Rwanda will be invited to speak face-to-face with others in order to share what they have found upon return to their homeland.
UNHCR will also donate a library it has built during the past two decades to the Refugee Law Project, a NGO that champions the rights of refugees in Uganda. The library will be used by students, NGOs and government officials to find information on refugee laws and rights.
In Oruchinga settlement, there will be an award ceremony based on the five pillars of existence - shelter, health, education, food and security. Teachers and students who have excelled in each of the five groups will receive certificates of achievement during the award presentation.
UNHCR and its local partners will organise dance and music competitions highlighting Rwandan culture. They will provide guests with traditional Rwandan food. The event will welcome an entertainer from Rwanda as a guest of honour. On the evening of 20 June, an outdoor theatre will broadcast Rwandan films and UNHCR promotional films in order to inform people about the situation in Rwanda.
