World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Belarus

A festival of films about refugees was held 18-20 June in a cinema in central Minsk. It attracted wide interest and acclaim from Minsk residents and tourists.

More than 1,000 schoolchildren, including refugees, took part in an art exhibition entitled "Together as a family in Belarus." The best pictures were featured in a free exhibition that opened on 8 June at the National Museum of History and Culture. Prizes and UNHCR diplomas were awarded for 42 of the young artists on 19 June.

An awards ceremony was held at the UNHCR Belarus office on 15 June for the winners of a nationwide competition among graduate and postgraduate students for academic work on refugees, statelessness and tolerance issues.
