Resettlement to Austria - English information
Kindly note that it is not possible to apply for this Programme and that UNHCR Austria is not involved in the selection process. Further information on the Programme can be found under the following headings

The current Humanitarian Admission Programme is designed for particularly vulnerable Syrian nationals who are registered as refugees and are residing in Jordan or Turkey. Syrian refugees in other countries cannot be covered under this Programme.
Syrian refugees who have been considered for the Programme will be directly contacted by UNHCR in the respective country. There is no possibility for Syrian refugees to apply for the Humanitarian Admission Programme.
The final decision on who will be admitted to Austria lies solely with the Austrian authorities. UNHCR has no control over these decisions.
For UNHCR particular vulnerability is the only decisive factor. Therefore, religion or ethnic background are no specific qualifications for admission. Persons with family links to Austria may only be considered if they also fulfill the other criteria of the Admission Programme (particular vulnerability, registration as refugees, residence in Jordan or Turkey).
Particularly vulnerable refugees may include women and girls at risk, survivors of violence and/or torture, older refugees at risk, refugees with physical protection needs, and children and adolescents at risk.
The Humanitarian Admission Programme is designed for particularly vulnerable Syrian refugees who are registered as refugees and are resding in Jordan or Turkey.
As there are currently more than 4.8 million refugees in Syria’s neighbouring countries, only a small number of all those in urgent need of protection can be admitted within the Programme, which is limited to 400 refugees. Therefore, for many Syrians it will not be possible to participate in the Programme, even if they fulfill all above-mentioned criteria.
As mentioned earlier, there is no possibility to apply for the Humanitarian Admission Programme. UNHCR will take its decision based on data collected in the registration process. Syrian refugees who have been considered for the Programme will be contacted directly by UNHCR in Jordan or Turkey.
However, please kindly note that the final decision whether a Syrian refugee will be admitted to Austria lies solely with the Austrian authorities.
UNHCR and its partners will not charge fees or ask for the provision of other services at any stage of the Admission Programme. In case you become aware of fraudulent requests for payment or other services in connection with the selection and admission process, we kindly ask you to notify us.
