Advancing Solutions for Refugees in Australia

As the global refugee population continues to grow sharply, alongside increasing unmet resettlement needs, Australia’s leadership on refugee protection and solutions is critical. Resettlement and complementary pathways not only provide life-saving solutions for individual refugees but also play a critical role in preserving asylum space and supporting the stability of large refugee populations, overwhelmingly in refugees’ regions of origin. UNHCR looks forward to its continued cooperation with Australia and recommends the following five priorities for action in 2026 and beyond.
