United Arab Emirates

UNHCR first established a presence in the United Arab Emirates in 1986 to strengthen its partnership and engagement with the Government and support individuals who need international protection. Since then, UNHCR has worked closely with the Government of the UAE to support refugees and displaced persons around the world through a range of life-saving projects across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Furthermore, the UAE also hosts UNHCR’s largest Global Stockpile at the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai. Through its presence in Dubai, UNHCR can rapidly deliver life-saving assistance to people in need within 72 hours of the outbreak of a crisis anywhere in the world.

Similarly, UNHCR engages with foundations, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations in the UAE to develop innovative partnerships and solutions, enhancing the capacity of UAE counterparts, as well as maximizing support for UNHCR’s operations and refugees worldwide.
