Online Regional Dialogue: Education of Refugee Children in Europe
Online Regional Dialogue: Education of Refugee Children in Europe
Date: 3 April 2024
Registration Deadline: 29 March 2024
The integration of refugee children into host country educational systems presents a multitude of challenges, ranging from language barriers and curriculum differences to the psychological impact of displacement.
Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach that goes beyond mere access to education. Host countries and supporting organizations must prioritize the development of inclusive and holistic educational programs that are sensitive to the diverse needs of refugee children and youth. This includes the provision of intensive language courses, bridging programs to address curriculum gaps, and the integration of psychosocial support services within schools. Additionally, fostering a welcoming and inclusive school environment is crucial for promoting the well-being and integration of refugee students.
Collaborative efforts between educational authorities, schools, NGOs, and communities play a critical role in crafting and implementing strategies that not only facilitate educational access but also support the holistic development and integration of refugee children and youth into their host societies.
This dialogue will identify some of these challenges and explore ways that they can be addressed.
The panel will feature interventions from UNHCR, UNICEF, The Including Children Affected by Migration Network and NGO Mondo, followed by a Q&A with NGOs.
