In addition, this toolkit aims to make concrete contributions towards the implementation of Global Refugee Forum multistakeholder pledge on addressing misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, which contributes to ”The Global Compact on Refugees high-level outcome 4: “Voluntary, sustainable return, reintegration, address root causes, prevent conflict and build peace.”
Implementation of UNHCR’s activities to address information risks builds upon UNHCR’s Guidance on Racism and Xenophobia which outlines six key areas for addressing racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance:
- Monitoring signs of racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, and tracking and reporting hate crime
- Analysing the underlying reasons for these phenomena
- Understanding legal obligations to protect all individuals from racial discrimination and multiple forms of discrimination
- Engaging a network of diverse organisations and actors that implement complementary activities targeting different groups in society
