German Ambassador to Kenya Her Excellency Jutta Frasch Visits Kakuma

KAKUMA, Kenya – UNHCR Kakuma Sub-Office hosted a one-day familiarization visit by the German Ambassador to Kenya Her Excellency Jutta Frasch.

Accompanied by UNHCR Assistant Representative (Programmes) Ms. Ivana Unluova, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call to the Deputy County Commissioner for Turkana West Sub County where she met with government officials before attending a briefing session at the UNHCR Sub-Office.

During the visit, the ambassador interacted with students at Peace Primary School where she observed a school garden project that is being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) before meeting with refugee leaders discuss the various challenges refugees face in their daily lives.

The Ambassador also visited Kalobeyei Settlement Clinic that offers medical services to over 35,000 refugees and host community. At the clinic, the ambassador toured the European Union Trust Fund funded maternity wing, currently under construction, and interacted with staff from the Kenya Red Cross Society. The mission then made a brief stop at WFP’s integrated Bamba Chakula Market where she interacted with Traders from the refugee and host community.
